7 Tips on how to write a winning research article

An issue that is paramount to every academic is how to write an academic article that commands attention. This issue keeps tugging at the heart of every researcher, not only for promotion, but also because of relevance.

Researchers are constantly faced with this dilemma, regardless of the stage in their careers.

Even after conducting a successful survey or analysis, there is still the challenge of putting the findings together in a sequence that will be easy to read and also acceptable to prospective reviewers.

Below are seven tips that can be helpful when putting together your research article for possible journal publications.

  1.    Make a grand entrance: let your introduction be as captivating as possible, this will encourage readers to delve further into your article.
  2. Utilize “thesis statements”: these are debatable and exact statements, found at the end of the introduction, and are tied to each of the paragraphs.
  3. Keep it simple: let your language and style of writing be as easily understood as possible without losing its essence.
  4. Be precise: evade long and boring articles, try to hit the “nail on the head”.
  5. Encourage easy reading: this can be achieved by avoiding long sentences, keep your sentences as short as possible, at the least 10 words, and at most 30 words per sentence.
  6. Take advantage of paragraphs: ensure that each of your paragraphs convey a specific message.
  7.  Use of citation: avoid starting or ending your paragraphs with a citation, fuse the citations into the body of your paragraphs, not at the beginning or at the end.
